After a few weeks of lots and lots of coding, fixing bugs, improving many parts of The Novelist’s interface, and implementing new features, just to name a few, I’m finally happy to announce v0.1.23<\/code>. This version has fixed a lot of issues that you shared with me and offers new features that you’ve been asking for since the very beginning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tags are finally here<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I’ve created a dedicated page specifically for your tags. You can now navigate through your tags, filter them, and see the connections of each one, all well organized in a single place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, tags inside your characters, locations, events, items\/objects, and other types of documents are now clickable and will redirect you to the tags page. When it comes to customizability, you can change the color of any tag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remote backups<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Many have been asking me about a way to back up everything they have to other locations, which is smart considering that this is the only way to save all of your work if anything happens to your device. There’s now an option to do that by going to Settings \u2192 Backups & Data<\/strong> and scrolling down until you see the “Portable backups<\/strong>” section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can export everything and move the data to another drive or even a cloud storage platform. This way, your saves won’t be locally based only, and you’ll be able to restore or move your books, manuscripts, and anything else that you created elsewhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I had this thought of letting the people who use The Novelist be able to create and submit their own themes to me. Not every theme will be accepted, of course, and I’ll be releasing them every few updates. For rejected themes, I’ll send you a personal email explaining why your theme didn’t get accepted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To make theme designing as easy as possible, I’ve created a Theme Creator tool<\/strong><\/a> that you can use to design your own theme and then submit it to me. v0.1.23<\/code> introduces the first community theme named ‘Thursgood<\/strong>‘, which comes in dark and light mode<\/strong>s and got its name from an early supporter who didn’t just donate to support me<\/a>, but he also helped a lot by sharing his feedback and thoughts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Improved Graph View<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Graph View<\/strong> has been significantly improved, but I’ll have to admit that there’s still a lot of work left to be done until it reaches its stable version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are quite a few issues with its current interface, such as many titles overlapping, clicking won’t show the details of a graph if you don’t open it manually, and quite a few more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since I’ve built this feature because I really wanted to see my world come alive through this beautiful Graph View, I’ll be constantly improving it with every new update.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A better Linux version<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I would have released the newest version a whole lot faster if not for Linux, but I wanted all users to have the same experience no matter the operating system they’re using. With our little penguin, there was a huge issue that I had to figure out, and it was all about the updating process, where some users had to follow a few manual steps in order to update successfully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a lot of testing and breaking everything on my Arch PC, I was finally able to solve all the problems and finally release the version to everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One thing that still remains is to publish The Novelist on the AUR catalogue, but unfortunately, new registrations are “temporarily” closed. I’m not sure what “temporarily” means exactly since they’ve kept new registrations closed for a long time now, so I can’t give you any date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Registration on the AUR is paused while we deal with a wave of automated account creation. This is a temporary measure and it is not specific to you or your network. There’s no manual registration queue, and we will not be able to respond to requests for new accounts during this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
